"Employer Parking Lot"

Effective Sept. 1, 2011
This
bill, which will require private employers to recognize their CHL holding employees' right to keep firearms or ammunition in their locked vehicle on employer property.  Employers' current policies prohibiting firearms in automobiles are valid until that date.  Also, remember that this bill only applies to parking lots and there are several exceptions to this law including the following:

1) Where possession of a firearm is prohibited by state or federal law;

2) The vehicle is owned or leased by the employer;

3) The employer is a school district, charter school or private school;

4) Possession of a firearm is prohibited by an oil, gas or mineral lease on the property; or

5) The property is in a secured area which contains the physical plant of a chemical manufacturer or oil and gas refiner, whose primary business is the manufacture, use, storage or transportation of hazardous, combustible or explosive material.

Third CHL Renewal?

A person may be exempt from taking a renewal course. If you have been continuously licensed for three (3) renewal periods, you may contact the Concealed Handgun Licensing Bureau to see if you are exempt from attending a renewal course.

However, if you are exempt from a renewal course, the next time your license is up for renewal you would be required to take a renewal course.

The law change was designed to allow those long time license holders to only need to take the class every ten years.

It is important to remember that you are still responsible for keeping current with any changes in the law.

Gun Owner’s Responsibilities

It is the gun owner’s responsibility to learn and follow all
applicable laws that pertain to the purchase, possession and use of guns in his or her jurisdiction.

It is the gun owner’s responsibility to ensure that unauthorized and untrained individuals cannot gain access to his or her guns.  Guns are neither safe nor unsafe by themselves.  When people practice responsible gun ownership, guns are safe.
